Reiner Ehlert

Reiner bravely fought against all odds, trying everything possible, only to realise that this challenge would be his last . We had a lot in common, especially in how we thought about life and actually doing things instead of wishing for things to happen. Time runs away from you when it is wasted. Reiner’s approach was to run away with time – new hobbies, fitness regimes, biking and travelling, bee-keeping, building, designing new ways of doing things, making pumpernickel bread, getting married – Reiner was on the move all the time. I would like to take a final moment to reflect on what he would probably like to say to us all: “The purpose of life is not just to be happy. It is also to be useful, to have honour, to be compassionate, to have made some difference for having lived . . . and lived well by helping others along the way.” Thank you Reiner – you lived life well.
