I not only had the privilege of teaching Darrell’s daughter Samantha. I did many of Darrell’s travel arrangements when I bought Katanning Travel. Darrell was a very intrepid traveller visiting many destinations such as Peru, Serbia, Croatia, Turkey, Greece, Switzerland, Austria & Germany. The highlights seeing Gallipoli & Machu Picchu. He returned with many tales of places he visited and people he met. Unfortunately COVID curtailed Darrell’s future plans for travel. RIP Darrell.

I had the pleasure of meeting Darrell in Peru, and from the very beginning, he always had a genuine smile on his face, no matter where we were or what we were doing. My family and I quickly grew fond of him, and we even managed to persuade him to take a picture with us. Those who know him know that he isn’t one to have his photo taken, so we felt truly honored that he agreed to it. He was so pleased with the picture that he couldn’t wait to send it to his daughter in Australia, so we shared it with her on Facebook, which made him incredibly happy. I loved listening to Darrell talk about his farm; it was clear that he had a true passion for it. It is remarkable how meeting him, even for a brief time, made me realize that he was a man of great character. I regret that I never had the chance to visit him on his farm. That would have indeed been a true pleasure.
