In1987 I was posted to Gairdner school staff where my son Robert and I began a new unfamiliar life in the country. My closest neighbours were the Keding family farming across the road and I quickly learned what a welcoming place my new home was to become. Doreen and Claude invited us to dinner and my garden soon benefited by a load of compost in the bucket on the tractor over the fence. We had found a caring and generous family who not only shared my life for the next two years but continued to the present. Doreen’s skills were numerous and she shared generously of them and her time. I consider myself blessed to have known Doreen for so many long years . We will miss her deeply and extend sincere sympathy and love to all her family.

On behalf of our Dad's Family, Jack Simpson, Auntie Doreen wasn't just our father's beloved sister, she was an important and inspirational part of our lives too. She would never forget a birthday, and we would always receive a call for Christmas too, then on occasions she would ring to check-in on our family and make sure all was well in SA. Auntie Doreen loved taking photos on her instamatic camera and you could guarantee that after a visit to SA, we would receive in the mail photos of family from the visit. On each picture she would inscribe the names of each family member, not a bad effort we thought to remember everyone. Neville's first memory of Auntie Doreen was when she taught him at Belalie North Sunday School. He wasn't a regular attendee but regardless she would always make him feel very welcome. Dad and Auntie Doreen were great pasty makers and there seemed to be a bit of banter on who made the best. Of course, Dad would like to claim that his were pretty good, but he couldn't take it away from his beloved bigger sister. Together they would share memories of their younger years and growing up on the farm and how they had to milk the cows before school then ride to and from school on horseback, this was the normal way of life for them. We are grateful for the time we spent with Auntie Doreen and the lasting impact she leaves on our family. Rest in Peace Auntie Doreen. Fond memories and love from Neville, Sharon, Tanya and families.

I'll always have my memories from the pastie master class of Doreen. Special 3 course lunches when visiting with the boys as babies after swimming lessons. Without warning you could whip up a feast from all your frozen home cooked treats. Enjoying your church lunches, delicious and a bargain. I'll always remember you sharing how your chrocheting was coming along with the many beautiful blankets you made for family and those in need. Your stories of your childhood waking up to milk to cows and help your family. How much you loved your family and Claude and how proud you were of each member. How much you loved capturing and hearing moments with photographs. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the attendance numbers for your big celebration on Friday. Thank you for always remembering my Birthday and showing you cared for me. Every time I make pasties I think of you, I let people know who's recipe it is, who taught me, and when I make them for others I feel it is your kindness passing on and now living on. Rest in peace with Claude lovely Doreen.

Doreen was a much loved big sister to Enid (youngest of the 8 siblings) & aunt to Chris & Kerry. Chris spent many holidays with her cousins Rhonda, Brian & Paul at Belalie North before the Keding’s headed to WA. As a close family Doreen always kept in touch with her SA family & we enjoyed many family reunions & a wonderful 90th celebration with the extended family. She was also a generous host for all the family members who visited her in Gardner River & Albany too. Famous for her cooking & community contributions well into her 90s. She leaves behind an amazing legacy in all she did and also in her family. She led a life to be greatly admired & will be remembered by us all with much fondness & love. Enid, Chris, Kerry & families.

Doreen, you will be missed so much. I first met you in 1971 when you and Claude and the family warmly welcomed me to your home.It wasn’t long before you considered me your second daughter and I thought of you as my second mum. How blessed I felt. What a remarkable woman you have been to your family and to so many in the wider community. Sincere condolences to your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and families. Sympathy to the Simpson families also. Rest peacefully with God to whom you have remained so faithful. Much Love from Marilyn & Peter & family.

Doreen was a generous, caring and cheerful volunteer for many years at Albany Community Hospice from the start. She and Claude would come in, Doreen to volunteer and Claude to play Scrabble and enjoy time in conversation with Harrison Tingle. They are all recorded in the hospice annals. Doreen continued to volunteer as the hospice relocated and was valued and respected and enjoyed by all. Her pasties were legendary and very popular! Pat and I met Doreen recently at a funeral and now it's her turn after a life well lived. Sincere condolences to Doreen's family. Helen Roe and Pat Galloway
