JOHN JOSEPH BENSON

Dearest Jan and family - Mum shared the very sad news about John passing. You both gave us the best time when we emigrated to your neighbourhood, thank you so much. I have so many happy memories of playing with your lovely brood often playing hide and seek in tiny places outside that were probably full of red-backs! We also remember our amazing time crab fishing with you all - and I always remembered you and John saying never run with scissors as I think it was Becky had hurt herself doing just that - kids eh! The strange thing is Jamie happened to be with his father Brian (who has now relocated to Cambodia from Thailand) when the news about John arrived. Brian sends his warmest regards and was pleased he could take you both out to explore Thailand :-) I know John will be missed everyday he was a lovely lovely man lots of love and fond memories Jackie xx

To Jan and your precious wonderful family we were so very sad to hear of John's passing. After watching his funeral and hearing the heartfelt words that were spoken about him by everyone, especially you Adrian, we can see that John's was truly a life well lived. You and John were both so kind to us when we were new arrivals in Kelmscott and bought the house next door all those years ago in 1974 with our own brood of three Rob, Jackie and Rich. We had such fun as neighbours and all remember eating a full traditional Christmas lunch {cooked by us Jan] in 40 degrees all seated under your carport and then partying into the night. John and you looked after us too when we were leaving to return to the UK. John turned up at the campsite where we were staying in a caravan after selling our house and absolutely insisted we follow him back to your new home in Perth where we were welcomed. Neither of you would have a bar of us all squashed in the small caravan and so we spent six wonderful weeks as your guests in your lovely home. We are just so pleased that we got to see dear John again in 2014 I think it was when you both visited Scandinavia and Europe. A joy to have you both with us for two weeks and it rained every single day. Our love and condolences to you all Jo, Dave, Rob, Jackie and Rich

Sincere condolences to Jan and family on the passing of a true gentleman. Growing up, I met John and Jan through my mother, Maria Smith. Thank you, John, and the Benson family, for your dedication, commitment, and personal support to the RSL and veteran community. The love and respect from your family and friends was clear in a beautiful service. Rest easy John. Your duty is done. Lest we forget.

I remember when I first met you. You and Jan came all the way to Sweden with your father, sisters and Carl with family. I was impressed you travelled so far to see the city and country your grandfather left. I will remember your happy eyes and warm smile. It was good to see you and Jan in Albany two years ago. John’s leadership and conviction in RSL and in founding Veterans Assist GS was admirable and gave us confidence as we grew the new group. Sharing time with John, Jan and their family has been a pleasure and a privilege. You are greatly missed, John.
