John was one of those people who make an incalculable impact on a community. The Great Southern, music, young people, the broader community music-making community. I got to know John at the end of this time, and it was years after my arrival that I started to understand his impact. He was generous and welcoming when I took over as AD at the Sinfonia, and a real support in getting you know the 'lie of the land'. I was deeply glad and honoured to have spent time working together with this venerable gentleman. Lots of love to everyone. Sorry to not get there, I didn't read the notice properly and turned up in Albany. Here watching the service and sending my love.

John will always have a special place in my heart he was kind and his gift of sharing and teaching his musical knowledge was beautiful. The time he gave us and so many others will always be appreciated and remembered. Apart from his music abilities and general kindness- his knowledge and recounts of his life and past times was always amazing to listen to or read via his Facebook profile over the years! John had a beautiful way with words and could make you feel like you were there with the detail he recalled. Was a privilege knowing John Sending love to Ruth and all the family xxx

John Bush was a remarkable man. His desire to share his love of classical music as widely as possible has left a mark on so many people. The annual Quaranup music camp that he founded has been a significant part of our family’s summer for over 30 years. John was also a music teacher with the Department of Education and taught with such care and love for music with so many students. John has left a wonderful legacy and will be missed. Our love and prayers to all the Bush family.

John was a truly amazing person who had contributed so greatly to music and to the education and the introduction of music into the lives of so many. He always had time for each individual person and expressed interest in them. His work in establishing music in Mt Barker through selflessly spending countless hours teaching, helping, advising young people and older people alike is and will be unsurpassed. As a founder of the Cowaramup music camps his legacy is all encompassing. Thank you for the help, advice and support you provided me personally all those years ago. You will be sorely missed but remembered with joy and gratitude for ever.

Mr Bush was a legend. How many lives did he touch through music. Mt Barker was certainly blessed with the Bush family. I have the fondest memories including school band, Camp Quaranup music camps, Ensembles at many a private function and just rehearsing and playing at John and Ruth’s place around the fire. Oh and my respect and love for the recorder is all due to John. .

Such an amazing legacy and tradition this man created in Quaranup Music Camp. I have memories of him sitting in dressing gown in the Dining Room planning the orchestra and chamber music lists for the day. Left a true gift for all West Australian musicians.

Dearest Ruth , Karin & your family, such a sad & emotional time with the passing of John. We all remember his amazing contribution to music in the Mt Barker & Albany area. I remember my John & I visited Ruth & John’s farm. Ruth playing her French horn, John his instrument & my John Pate played the piano. Treasured memories . RIP

John, you have left an incredible legacy, one that we have now been able to pass onto our own children. Quaranup Music Camp has had a big impact on our lives in so many ways. Among our fondest memories are playing chamber music and you wandering in to listen. Thank you for all you did for music in the region.
