I knew Chris during the time he and Georgina lived in Toodyay where he would sometimes join the Toodyay Naturalist Club excursions and meetings. He was such a pleasant and interesting person to be around. Condolences and sympathy to his family and friends. Greg Warburton

I never really knew Chris. He was a man of few words a deep pool as the saying goes. This was appreciated by all who knew him. He chose to end his life on his own terms a courageous selfless act. My thoughts go out to Georgina.

Dear Georgina, It is with sadness that I have just learned of Chris’s passing. Georgina, please accept my most sincere and heartfelt condolences. In addition to being a brilliant man with an exceptional career—a career about which he remained extremely discreet and modest—Chris was, to us, a delightful man, very cultured and full of humor. I have wonderful memories of the vacations we spent together with Frédéric, Julie, and Hadrien, especially in Tourtour, the “Village in the Sky.” So if there’s anyone up there in that sky, please give our friend the warmest welcome by offering him a glass of the finest Burgundy wine and a bit of Roquefort before striking up a conversation with him that is sure to be fascinating. I send you big hugs, Georgina, and my thoughts are with you.

We benefit daily from his foresight and planning, as we administer the Court of Appeal along the lines which he conceived. The judges and staff of the Supreme Court of Western Australia offer our sincere condolences on the passing of the Honourable Christopher Steytler AO KC, who served as a judge of the Court for more than 14 years, including as the inaugural President of the Court of Appeal. He was greatly respected by the legal profession and by all of his colleagues at the Court. Chris will long be remembered for his intellect, dedication, and unfailing courtesy. He will be sadly missed.
